Washington in Wellington – involving a local city council member and it is under investigation.Kip EtterHeath said the WPD has transferred the case to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation for further study – citing a conflict of interest  — much like an employee/employer situation.Kip Etter, owner of The Dore – an eating and drinking establishment – was allegedly involved in an altercation on Saturday, Dec. 5 at his place of business involving himself and a 21-year-old patron. No charges have been filed at this time.A KBI representative, when contacted by Sumner Newscow, said it had no comment and would not be providing a report to the news media. In an interview Wednesday evening, Etter confirmed that an altercation took place. He said he had returned from the Garth Brooks Concert in Wichita, and an individual threatened him for a number of minutes and he was concerned for his safety and some of his staff.“I was sitting at the bar drinking water and this individual who recently turned of age was heavily intoxicated,” Etter said.Etter would not elaborate why the alleged altercation took place, citing he is unable to do so at this time.He said he is not pressing charges and has hired an attorney.“I’ve been doing this for a long time and I just can’t believe something like this has snowballed to this extent,” Etter said. “I can tell you I’ve been running The Dore for 4 1/2 years prior to this and before moving to Wellington. I have never once came close to any criminal charges.”Etter said he is happy that the KBI is doing the investigation and not the WPD because of the working relationship.“There is too much at stake, and too many people involved, who are too close to the situation,” Etter said. “With the KBI investigation there will be no finger pointing.”Follow us on Twitter.last_img
