NFL players react to league’s 35% salary proposal: ‘Our health is way more important’

first_imgAn NFL Media report Tuesday about player salaries got the attention of several NFL stars, including league MVP Patrick Mahomes. The report, from Tom Pelissero, says the league is considering a proposal that would have “35% of player salaries be held in escrow.”  Several other NFL players, including Bears wideout Allen Robinson, Chargers safety Derwin James and Packers offensive lineman T.J. Lang, added their opinions.https://t.co/PWFLRs9UEt pic.twitter.com/j0lm0X0CLB— Allen Robinson II (@AllenRobinson) July 8, 2020😂😂 https://t.co/Zb8Hx5gSxo— Derwin James Jr (@DerwinJames) July 8, 2020Billionaires love to make people think they are always hurting. https://t.co/RxSN5dlHhj— TJ Lang (@TJLang70) July 7, 2020Here’s 2/3 of your salary to do the same dangerous job in even more dangerous conditions. Not to mention restrictions on our personal life that won’t apply to the owners. Sounds about right…… https://t.co/f84KyblLsR— Vince Biegel (@VinceBiegel) July 8, 2020If this happens we need an entirely new PA @NFLPA https://t.co/Kp4jJTkWzj— Taylor Lewan (@TaylorLewan77) July 8, 2020While NFL revenue is sure to be impacted by the coronavirus this year, the players have a right to be upset. As it stands right now, the NFL season is set to be played in full. Football has plenty of risks on its own, and you’re asking players to go an entire season in the middle of a pandemic. Asking them to take a massive pay cut for the same number of games will never fly.Don’t expect this to be the last bit of drama between the NFL and NFLPA, either. Pelissero reports the two sides “remain at odds” over testing and the number of preseason games. The NFLPA informed its board of representatives today that the NFL proposed 35% of player salaries be held in escrow to help manage costs during the 2020 season, per sources. It’s one option on the table if revenue is impacted leaguewide by COVID-19.— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) July 7, 2020MORE: 5 quarterbacks who could get benched in 2020Pelissero added that NFLPA executive Don Davis told players on a conference call: “Basically, we told them to kick rocks.” The NFLPA’s stance is that if there is an escrow deal, it must be collectively bargained. But judging by the reactions of players, there’s no way this happens.Saints receiver Michael Thomas was perhaps the most vocal, saying players would sit out the year if this happens.Lol everyone will sit out and not play until they get their stuff together before we do this 😂 https://t.co/cqOuQfQvr8— Michael Thomas (@Cantguardmike) July 7, 2020Mahomes responded to Thomas’ tweet, seemingly in agreement with him, adding, “Bro, what?” Thomas added some additional thoughts to Mahomes’ reply.Has to be a joke lol 😂😭😭. Roger and those owners better use their billions and put it in escrow or plan accordingly. Our health is way more important. This is about as backwards as it gets 😭😂😂🥴 https://t.co/Egq2RaYsuO— Michael Thomas (@Cantguardmike) July 8, 2020MORE: 5 name replacements for the Washington RedskinsThomas and Mahomes were not alone.last_img read more

Powered by Firework Brighton & Hove Albion defender Bernardo Jr. jokingly kicked his fellow team-mate Florin Andone in the leg in an absolute bizarre bust-up just before their game against Southampton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday. The incident quickly became viral as no one could understand what was Bernardo’s motive behind it. The video shows the Brazilian lashed out at Andone, kicking him in the ankle, with both players remonstrating after the event.Advertisement Watch the absurd incident here:Advertisement On Saturday afternoon, Sky Sports were previewing the Premier League games for that day, when the cameras flashed to Brighton’s home ground. The two players were seen walking onto the pitch for a pre-match warm up when Bernardo decided to boot his colleague in the ankle. But Andone who wasn’t amused quickly turned around in disbelief and furiously questioned why his team-mate had just kicked him. Bernardo, who felt guilty and embarrassed started to protest for his innocence while the Andone was checking the state of his calf. It then appeared that Bernardo explained to his teammate that he was attempting to volley a piece of chewing gum he had spat out and had no intentions to kick him. Andone, though, remained unimpressed with the friendly fire.To add salt to the injury (no pun intended), the Romanian striker’s day then went from bad to worse as he was sent off just after 30 minutes for a horror tackle on Southampton defender Yan Valery who escaped unhurt. Brighton then went on to lose the match 2-0 to the Saints.  Advertisementlast_img read more
