Facebooks Calibra cryptocurrency wallet already has competition

first_img Comments Mobile Tech Industry Share your voice 3 Tags Facebook plans to launch a new cryptocurrency called Libra in the first half of 2020.  Thomas Trutschel/Getty Images Facebook doesn’t plan to launch its new Libra cryptocurrency and a complementary digital wallet until 2020. But that hasn’t stopped some startups from throwing their hats in the ring early. On Sunday, Israeli developer ZenGo said a cryptocurrency wallet it rolled out earlier this year will begin supporting Libra. Since Facebook and its 27 partners haven’t launched the cryptocurrency, ZenGo is letting users store a test version. The test Libra funds, unlike the version that’s coming, don’t have any real monetary value.libraZenGo is letting users experiment with a test version of a new cryptocurrency, called Libra, that’s expected to launch in 2020.  ZenGo “Getting to know it early might spark some new ideas and give you a head start for when Libra becomes truly operational,” ZenGo said in a blog post. You can experiment with Libra by going to your account tab in the ZenGo app, which is currently available for iPhone users. The wallet also lets you buy Bitcoin, Ethereum and Binance Coin with your credit card or Apple Pay. Since Facebook announced Libra, the company has faced pushback from US lawmakers who are concerned that the cryptocurrency will be abused by criminals and negatively impact the US dollar. Facebook’s blockchain boss, David Marcus, said in a congressional hearing last month that the social network wouldn’t launch Libra until the company has addressed all concerns, but he stopped short of agreeing to a moratorium. Facebook took the wraps off Libra in June. Unlike many other cryptocurrencies, Libra will be pegged to a basket of assets that anchor its value, so that value won’t swing wildly. The Libra Association that’ll manage the currency hasn’t said what those assets will be, but it suggested they’d include major global currencies, like the dollar and the euro. The proposed crypto has been met with a chilly response from regulators and politicians around the world.ZenGo will compete with a digital wallet called Calibra that Facebook plans to introduce in 2020. The social network, though, has the advantage of already having 2.4 billion monthly active users. You’ll be able to download the Calibra app onto your iPhone or Android device, or add the wallet into the messaging apps Messenger or WhatsApp once it’s released. The Calibra wallet will also work with other wallets that accept Libra. Users need to verify their identity by uploading an ID such as a driver’s license.ZenGo, which plans to release an app for Android phones, said that users can create their digital wallet by downloading the app and providing their email. You also don’t need a private key, and ZenGo users scan their face to backup their wallet. ZenGo said it’s a “noncustodial” wallet for Libra, which means you have full control over your funds instead of having to rely on a third-party. Facebooklast_img read more

Shoemaker Crocs delivering by drone

first_imgClose Shoemaker Crocs showed off a possible future alternative to heading out to its store as it experimented with helicopter drones as a delivery option at a pop-up store on 5 March.Shoppers were able to select a pair of shoes on an iPad screen and by touching a take off button, they prompted the drone to begin its delivery journey. The drone then proceeded to hover over the shoes before attempting – with the help of a magnet – to grab hold of a pair and carry them back to a waiting basket ready for the customer to collect. While not every pair made it successfully into shoppers baskets immediately, some anxious customers did manage to see their shoes delivered. The drones have been specially adapted from commercially available products for the temporary store, which will be open until 8 March.Morrie Fujita, vice president and general manager for Crocs Japan, said there were not any plans to use the drones in the long term.Whilst most drones kept missing their targets and, in one case, flying off haphazardly into the crowd, it was – if nothing else – an adventurous shopping experience.last_img read more

Cellphone user in 200metre radius of exam centre to be arrested

first_img.Banning the use of mobile phone in a radius of 200 metres around the examination centre to prevent the leakage of question papers in the ongoing SSC and equivalent examinations, the government has ordered immediate arrest if anyone is found with a cellphone. The higher and secondary division of the education ministry issued a couple of directives upon the authorities concerned on Monday in this regard, reports UNB.As per the directives, legal action, including arrest, must be taken if anyone is found with mobile phones in and around a 200-metre radius of the examination centre. It will have to be ensured that examinees enter the centres and take their seats 30 minutes before the start of the test. “No candidate will be allowed after that time.”On Sunday, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission instructed all the internet gateway operators to slash the internet limit as well as mobile phone operators to suspend the internet from 8:00am to 10:30am on the exam days. However, on Monday, the authorities withdrew the decision and asked the operators to keep the service uninterrupted. The SCC (Secondary School Certificate) question papers have been leaking out from the very first day of the examination. Giant prehistoric crocodile shieldcroc identified

first_imgImage: Henry Tsai, University of Missouri © 2011 PhysOrg.com Discovered in Morocco and subsequently carted off to the Royal Ontario Museum in Canada, the head sat ignored for nearly a decade before Casey Holliday, a paleontologist at the University of Missouri decided to look a little deeper. After analysis the head piece turned out to be from an animal that belonged to the family crocodyliforms, which of course is where modern crocodiles, alligators, caimans and others come from.Interestingly, despite its massive size, the old croc appears to have been rather weak jawed, and thus was more likely to eat fish swimming by (such as the car-length coelacanths) than grabbing animals off the shore and twisting them down into the water to drown them as modern crocs do.Holliday believes the shield was used to help cool the animal, due to the presence of skin and blood vessels similar to those in the frill of triceratops. Thus it would have been too soft to serve as protection, which makes Holliday believe it was likely mostly used to either frighten off other males, or to attract females. Also, because the head fragment was found in Morocco, new fuel has been added to fire in the ongoing debate among paleontologists regarding the origins of crocodyliforms. This new evidence points to North Africa of course, near the Mediterranean, though many still believe the original location was much farther north But since we’re talking about animals that lived around a hundred million years ago; so far back that land masses were configured differently from today, it’s likely the arguments will go on without ever being proved one way or the other.Holliday says the shieldcroc likely had an extra long face that was sort of flat with a roundish nose and small teeth. Its head alone was likely the size of a full-grown man. He also believes the giant beast’s feeding habits were more like modern pelicans than crocodiles and alligators. Ancient crocodile relative likely food source for Titanoboa (PhysOrg.com) — A scientist working in Canada studying a part of a head of a dinosaur found some ten years ago in Morocco, has uncovered what may be the great granddaddy of all modern crocs. The ancient beast, believed to have been wandering around during the Cretaceous period is estimated to have been nearly the length of a school bus and had a strange shield type crown covering the top of his head that researchers believe might have been more for showing off than fighting.center_img Explore further Citation: Giant prehistoric crocodile ;shieldcroc; identified (2011, November 10) retrieved 18 August 2019 from https://phys.org/news/2011-11-giant-prehistoric-crocodile-shieldcroc.html This document is subject to copyright.
