Nicholls’ Taylor, NSU’s Zirkle Named Semifinalists for 2019 William V. Campbell Trophy

first_imgZirkle, a senior offensive lineman, finished with a 3.87 GPA as a business major in undergrad and now has a perfect 4.0 mark studying homeland security in grad school. He anchors a Demon offensive line that ranks 27th among FCS programs in passing yards per game (276.3) and stands in the top-50 nationally in tackles for loss allowed per game (5.5) and sacks allowed per game (1.5). Zirkle is a two-time member of the CoSIDA Academic All-District and Academic All-Southland teams and represented the league at the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum.  The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Oct. 30, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2019 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class presented by Fidelity Investments. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators. Celebrating its 30th year in 2019, the award recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership. Taylor and Zirkle are among the 185 individuals honored from all three NCAA divisions and NAIA. Full Release/Semifinalist Listcenter_img Nominated by their schools, candidates for the awards must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship. Taylor, a senior running back, boasts a 3.72 GPA in petroleum services safety technology. He was a Second-Team All-Southland selection in 2018 after leading the team in rushing yards (990) and scoring 10 total touchdowns. Taylor suffered an injury in fall camp and has missed the first four weeks of the season. A two-time Academic All-Southland pick, he picked up CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in 2018. The finalists will travel to New York City for the 62nd NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 10, where their accomplishments will be highlighted in front of one of the most powerful audiences in all of sports. Darts and Three-legged race made their introduction in the final day of the season.Corporate Games happen every first Sunday of the month at Mandela National Stadium unlike this time round it happened on 13th October 2019 (the second Sunday). Note that the games took place at Kyambogo University Cricket Oval after being invited by Kyambogo University to extend the experience of the games to the students.It has been a wonderful nine months for the Corporate Games since they kicked off on 3rd February 2019. Mandela National Stadium clinched the 4th position just above Joint medical Stores who were the fifth. Royal Vanzanteen came 7th just below new comers Rapid Advisory who managed to grab the 6th spot. Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), Orion Transformers, Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) finished 8th, 9th and 10th respectively.In sack racing Ministry of Finance finished second above Mandela National Stadium who booked themselves the third spot in both the men and women’s sack race.One the games that has been played in all the outings is football.
