Ranieri declares Fulham are ‘alive’ after comeback

first_imgClaudio Ranier is confident Fulham will stay up.[Picture: Simon Matthews/PA Wire]Claudio Ranieri declared Fulham are “alive” again following the dramatic 4-2 win over Brighton.Aleksandar Mitrovic scored twice as the Whites came from two goals down to breathe life into their relegation battle.Fulham, who had lost all four of their previous matches since the turn of the year, were staring down the barrel of another defeat after two first-half goals from Glenn Murray. But Calum Chambers pulled one back with his first Fulham goal before two trademark Mitrovic headers put the hosts in front, and Luciano Vietto opened his account with the fourth to wrap up the victory.“This three points means that we are alive, we can see a little light in front of us,” said manager Ranieri.“It is only a little step but we are alive. We showed very good fighting spirit.“It was a very strange match, we were 2-0 down after 17 minutes. At half-time, I gave confidence to my players and positivity. I told them we are in the match.“The goal from Chambers was very important, it gave the players the opportunity to say ‘we can do something good tonight’.“We deserved to win and we played very good football.”Murray had not scored in his previous nine Premier League matches but found Fulham’s defence as accommodating as usual – he had tucked away his sixth and seventh goals in his last five games against them.Yet somehow Fulham clawed themselves back into the contest two minutes after the interval, Chambers beating Mat Ryan from 20 yards before Mitrovic twice threw himself in where it hurts to turn the match on its head.A nervous final 10 minutes looked in prospect until Tom Cairney struck the crossbar and Vietto tucked the rebound away to complete the dramatic turnaround.Fulham remain second from bottom but are now two points behind Cardiff and five from safety. It is now three straight defeats for Brighton, and manager Chris Hughton said: “Of course I was angry afterwards. You don’t expect to concede four goals. That’s not like us.“I thought as good as we were in the first half we were as poor in the second half.“Mitrovic is a very good player but we conceded poor goals. If I’m looking at the first goal we allow a player to strike from the edge of the box and that gives them momentum.“Looking at the four goals we conceded they are four poor goals which is not like us, particularly in the form we have been in. We found it hard to cope in the second half and we didn’t work hard enough.”See also:Fulham pull off brilliant comeback to beat Brighton Follow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebookby Taboolaby TaboolaSponsored LinksSponsored LinksPromoted LinksPromoted LinksRecommended for youProperty Investment | Search AdsDubai Real Estate Investment Properties May Surprise YouProperty Investment | Search AdsUndoApartments for Sale | Search AdsApartments in Dubai Might Be Cheaper Than You ThinkApartments for Sale | Search AdsUndoHealth & Human Research7 Arthritis Causing Foods You Probably Eat Every DayHealth & Human ResearchUndoEasyvoyage[Photos] Top 30 of the most beautiful women in the worldEasyvoyageUndoCodigosi.com5 little everyday things to lose weightCodigosi.comUndoTopGadgetAdvisorAre You Looking For a Remedy For Neck Pain?TopGadgetAdvisorUndolast_img read more

How reliable will this year’s test plot data be?

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Ohio’s corn and soybean crops experienced exceptional growing conditions in 2015, including record rainfall in June and July followed by a drier than normal August conditions in many areas. The persistent rains saturated soils and caused localized ponding and flooding. These conditions resulted in root damage and N loss that led to uneven crop growth and development between and within fields. Agronomists often question the value of test plot data when adverse growing conditions severely limit yield potential. The validity of test plot results depends primarily on whether effects of the varied stress conditions are uniform across test plots. If not, test plot data may be questionable. To be certain that effects of stress were fairly uniform, it would be necessary to monitor test plots on a regular basis to determine crop response to the various stresses as they occurred; however, such monitoring was probably unlikely in many test plot fields.Another problem with test plot results is that the various yield limiting factors may accentuate the natural “variability” already existing in the field, and may thereby further “mask” the true treatment effects that are being compared. Stress conditions like the ponding and saturated soils this year coupled with slight differences in soil organic matter, drainage, weed control, etc. across a field may magnify differences in crop performance. If one assumes that the varied stress conditions affected test plots uniformly within a field, then interpretation of test plot data becomes an issue. This issue can be especially relevant when evaluating results of hybrid and cultivar performance trials affected by excessive soil moisture. Did a hybrid or cultivar yield well under saturated soils because it genuinely possessed some flooding tolerance or because it was planted in better drained areas of the field? This year we have more than a 100 bushels per acre difference in plot yield between hybrid entries planted at different locations within a field that are related to soil drainage and N loss. Usually there are striking visual differences between such plots associated with plant height and overall plant health but differences are not always pronounced.Test plot information this year can still be very useful but take precautions. Results from single on-farm strip tests should not be used to make a decision on adoption of a treatment or variety. Even replicated data from a single test site should be avoided, especially if the site was characterized by abnormal growing conditions. Use test plot data from multiple sites (and preferably from at least two years of testing) and inquire about the weather patterns and conditions associated with the results. Look for consistency in a product or cultivar’s performance across a range of environmental conditions.last_img read more

Methods to improve cash flow

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest By Brian E. RavencraftA method to address the reduction of unnecessary costs is to first establish which activity of the farm operation generates those costs.Step 1: Identify activities which generate costs and provide no added value.Step 2: Decide if changes to that activity will affect business turnoverAnswer: NO? Then is the activity necessary or adding value?Answer: YES? Cost reduction techniques may have adverse effect on business profitability.Beware: cost cutting can have a long-term negative impact. For some farmers, failure to invest in people, marketing and technology can leave you falling behind your competitors. You are increasingly likely to provide a product and service of inferior quality. You will also be likely to experience above-average team turnover. And ultimately, your customers have a choice, and you will cease to be it.Deferring payments to suppliers and service providers helps you keep the cash in your pocket longer. Pay your bills on time, but not before they are due. Do however take advantage of discounts offered for payments made before the due date. Better to pay less rather than later. It is also important to keep your suppliers sweet in case you need them to satisfy a rush job. If you have a short-term cash flow problem, it’s often best to talk with your suppliers and negotiate payment terms, rather than annoying them by simply not paying or putting them off with the old “the check’s in the post” line. Thus, make the most of trade credit terms. For farming operations working on credit it does not make commercial sense to pay your bills before the due date. Cash flow: One of the three key measuresThe basis to managing cash flow is to ensure that you measure it — plan for it and prepare. Cash flow forecasting is an essential management tool, allowing you to understand the peaks and troughs of your business and understanding the effect of seasonal variations, credit policies, and balance sheet transactions. The three most important things to measure in a farming business are customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction and cash flow. It’s interesting to note that two of those three are non-financial Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). When we work with our clients to help them implement KPI systems, we often find that there is a good mixture of financial and non-financial measures that it’s important to measure to manage the business effectively.Below are some budgeting tips that you can try:Be realistic. Business budgeting should be based on numbers that is backed up by sensible expectations. These expectations should be based on both previous business financial performance and projected business developments.Budgeting should be time-bound. Farm budgets should be prepared under a specific timeframe. The budget is most of the time based on the farming business’ fiscal year or you can also project a budget on a monthly or quarterly basis. It is recommended that you break down your budget on a monthly basis even if you have already prepared it on your farming business’ fiscal year. To make your farming budgeting easy, consider using a financial program or software.Make an estimate on your income and expenses. Farmers may use preceding year’s data. Consequently, farmers can also look at current or projected market prices to project estimated income and expenses. You should use what is the most probable, when preparing your budget.  Brian E. Top Intranets Embrace Mobile Accessibility and Social Networking

first_imgCognitive Automation is the Immediate Future of… Intranets are becoming a higher priority for organizations. Intranet teams are growing in size, and the best of them are embracing new trends such as mobile accessibility and social networking. These are some of the findings from Jakob Nielsen’s annual report on the top intranets for 2010. Companies that made the list this year include General Electric, Trend Micro Devices and Walmart. Nielsen is recognized as one of the world’s foremost usability experts. His findings appear solid, though it is apparent that Intranet development is just on the verge of becoming a central communication environment for enterprise collaboration. This year, Nielsen says, top companies on the list had a median size of about 6,300 employees, which continues a year-to-year trend toward smaller businesses. He attributes it to the increase in availability of small-company-friendly intranet technology. In addition, intranet teams are growing, up to 14 people, 27% higher than the average team size in 2006. This is not a big surprise. The need to develop the best possible internal communications environments now cuts across multiple platforms, ranging from the web to mobile devices. More resources are required to keep these platforms synced and accessible to the employees in the organization.Mobile Intranet SitesThe best intranets had a separate mobile site for their employees. Of the companies polled, only 30% actually had a dedicated mobile site. Expect this to change in the year ahead. People are still getting to know how to use smart phones. It’s still rare for companies to launch application environments for users, but at least one company did: an iPhone web app. Soon, though, users will expect to have access “anytime, anywhere,” to their organization’s network. Social FeaturesThe social Web is finding its way into intranets. Nielsen cites two trends:social features for employees as individualsworkgroup support and other features that encourage work-related connectionsHe cites Walmart for its discussion and profile pages and Trend Micro’s TrendSpace, which includes the capability for employees to create their own content. Trend Micro goes as far as offering an elaborate system of reward points that accrue to employees when they contribute to the intranet’s community features. It’s noteworthy that social features are still just emerging in intranet environments, especially with the advent of enterprise collaboration services. Companies still have the chance to be recognized as innovators in this space, especially if they implement real-time update capabilities and mashup environments.Intranet Design is MaturingOverall, Nielsen comes to the conclusion that intranet design is maturing. In many respects, the Intranet has come of age.In the year ahead, intranets will change even more. Mobile usability and social networking features will continue to evolve, especially as teams begin to experiment with the wide variety of enterprise collaboration services now available. alex williams Tags:#enterprise#news#NYT#Trends IT + Project Management: A Love Affaircenter_img Massive Non-Desk Workforce is an Opportunity fo… Related Posts 3 Areas of Your Business that Need Tech Nowlast_img read more

Social Media Networking Craze

first_imgFacebook, friends, fans, pages, Twitter, tweets, followers, YouTube, Flickr, Digg, blogging, CMS―do you feel overwhelmed by the social media networking craze? You are not alone! But think about this: Where would Microsoft be had it failed to update its Windows operating system? Even today, Microsoft refuses to stay behind, because it too uses Facebook and Twitter. This is the first of several articles I will be writing on the most popular and successful social media networking technologies that the home-building community should take advantage of for three reasons:They are free. They provide tremendous value in building your brand and enhancing your online presence. They are where your current and future customers are hanging out!How does it all work?Think of a social media networking strategy as the construction of a high-performance home. If you’re a green builder, you know that building a high-efficiency home goes beyond putting certain products together, even if they are Energy Star or labeled “green.” Green home building requires an integrated approach. It entails a different way of thinking. A beautiful green-built home begins with a great design, one that takes into consideration many aspects, including site selection, home orientation, eco-friendly materials and green building strategies. It’s all about strategy and avoiding mistakesJust like building a green home, social media networking requires a plan―a strategy with a purpose―in order to maximize your profits and productivity as a business owner.Social media networking and bookmarking go beyond blogging and having online discussions with your friends and co-workers about what you had for lunch or how tired you’re feeling on a Monday morning after a crazy weekend.Your social media networking strategy deserves an integrated approach. It requires a strategy. You want to manage your online presence because this is where your customers and business associates are and where they will be reading about you. And when they do, you don’t want to have any regrets about what you’ve shared with the world.Use social media networking to extend your business relationships with your customers and colleagues. Avoid posting messages and photos that you would not share with Granny, your customers or your new boss. Your business image can easily be damaged by making these mistakes.Your strategy should involve posting “online billboards” in various social media networking platforms to attract future customers to your website, thus increasing online traffic with the goal of turning leads into loyal customers. Successful businesses are using social media to stay connected with their current customer base and to attract new clients in a transparent, friendly, informative, and non-threatening manner.Your blog is keyOne of the main things you need in order to sing your tune and get with the social media dance is a blog for your business. Your blog serves as a platform where you regularly share your knowledge and expertise. In addition, your blog serves as a way to engage with your customers. It should have a mechanism for visitors to leave comments and submit questions. In short, your blog begins the discussion.Blogging tipsThree things to keep in mind about blogging:Keep your articles customer-friendly, yet professional.Respond in a timely manner to questions or comments.End your articles with a call to action.Larger organizations have departments dedicated to managing their online presence. Although you may not have the ability to hire someone solely to manage your social media presence, consider cross-training and selecting a couple of key individuals in your organization who are internet-savvy and can help you in this area. How do you get started?First, familiarize yourself with social media lingo. Attend social media classes, spend time learning about these (free!) tools and technologies, and study how other colleagues and businesses in your industry are using them.Second, begin mapping a social media marketing strategy to enhance your online presence. Decide which platforms make sense for you to use for your business, and learn more about them.Third, create a schedule to manage your online brand. You can easily manage your strategy in approximately seven hours each month. This is a doable time commitment to manage your online branding using platforms that cost you nada!Questions or comments? Your feedback is welcome.last_img read more

Consistently Consistent

first_imgWhatever your business strategy, it should be pursued consistently. If you have the lowest price because that is the value you intend to create, that should be how you compete. You confuse your customers and your employees when you sometimes try to capture more value. You don’t expect to pay more sometimes, and other times, pay less.If your strategy is to have the very best product, releasing and selling an inferior one damages your strategy. By releasing something that isn’t up to the standard you set, you lose the loyalty and the willingness to pay for something that is supposed to be of a higher quality, one worthy of a higher price. If your strategy is the best total solution, you don’t have to have the best price or the best product. Instead, you have to consistently deliver greater value through a combination of things designed to deliver greater value than competitive offerings. To execute this strategy you need to consistently create new solutions that match your client’s needs. When you stop collaborating and caring enough to do this work, you have broken your strategy. There are companies in every vertical that compete using each of these three strategies. It’s their consistency, however, that defines them in their space. You have to be consistently consistent in the execution of your strategy when it comes to differentiation, and when it comes to pricing. If you choose to compete by providing the lowest price and eliminating other value you might create, execute that strategy consistently and roll up all the targets who need that value. If you choose to create the best product money can buy, then refine your work and improve it, leaving no doubt that your product is better than any alternative. If you compete on the best overall solution, consistently execute that strategy, which means that you price according to the value you create, not what your competitor’s charge. Essential Reading!
