Publisha Promotes Apptop Publishing

first_imgcurt hopkins Tags:#Publishing Services#web Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… UK company Publisha has created a platform for doing what people are already doing but with less labor and more standardization: publishing across platforms that include mobile. The platform is currently in beta. From one dashboard, a user can publish to a website (provided by Publisha), to iPhone/iPad and to Facebook, where the Publisha network is broadcast. The same act produces an RSS feed, is indexed on search engines and soon will publish to Twitter. CEO Ian Howlett focuses on the platform as a service that produces a “whole ecosystem” of publishing. “Unlike PDF readers, we’re not trying to replicate print magazines, but rather focus on offering a service to bloggers, writers and publishers who don’t want the constraints of a traditional magazine layout. Publisha allows even small teams to easily publish across multiple digital platforms.”There is also a focus on what the company’s marketing consultant Anna Sjöström calls “the heart of Publisha’s beta framework.“(It’s) a unique Facebook app that sits as an ‘articles’ tab within an existing Facebook page and enables publishing of full articles, interactive content, polls and takes advantage of inbuilt viral features.” The basic Publisha account does not require an initial outlay. But of course, there’s no such thing as a free lunch. The company takes 20% of your ad space and 20% revenue of any ads you sell through your Publisha-published site. The basic site is 10 GB, the $50 Professional account is 20 and the $250 Enterprise allows you 30. With the Enterprise account, you do not farm out any ad space. The examples of Publisha users the company provides include Amarya, an organic health and beauty company, and Bodas USA, a bridal magazine. The trade-off seems to be expressiveness for convenience and standardization. Here’s the Amarya blog and here is the Facebook app for Bodas.Publisha is lead by CEO Howlett, formerly a software developer with Unisys and FT.com, and Chairman and angel investor Chris Mottes. Mottes is the co-founder and CEO of Deadline Games and CEO of Six Ravens Capital. All in all it seems like a reasonable offer for people and companies who do not want to spend capital and work-hours on maintaining an integrated social media presence. Arabian Knightz Rap the Revolution, MideastTunes Burns the Track

first_imgTags:#music#web *Are there any rapping imams? 5 Outdoor Activities for Beating Office Burnout curt hopkins 9 Books That Make Perfect Gifts for Industry Ex… 4 Keys to a Kid-Safe App Related Posts 12 Unique Gifts for the Hard-to-Shop-for People… Egyptian hip-hop group Arabian Knightz are the first off the block with a rap to celebrate the ongoing revolution. “Arabian Knightz feat. Lauryn Hill – Rebel (Prod. Iron Curtain).mp3” is the rough mix of a song that bears witness to the awakening of a new sensibility in their country. “Rebel” comes courtesy of a fascinating project called MideastTunes, whose mission is to share “music for social change” from the Middle East online, both among MENA countries and with the wider world. Temperature’s droppin’ at the rotten oasisThe three Cairo-based rappers (yes, the Middle East has rappers as well as imams*), Rush, Sphinx and E-Money, recorded the song in the midst of the uprising and released it, raw, yesterday, the first day the Internet was restored to Egypt. The track is rapped in Arabic and English and is built around a Lauren Hill sample. As it says on their MideastTunes page: “‘Rebel’ is an emotionally empowering song that captures the heart, courage & spirit of the Egyptian people currently embattled in a Revolution against an oppressive leadership.”The track itself is hacked off uncooked and awkward and beautiful. Protest music is at best yawn-inducing and at worst pretentious if it doesn’t deliver its message on an interesting acoustic level. This song does. (Despite HIll’s whiskey delivery, it could use a bit less of her and a bit more AK.) I found myself replaying it half a dozen times – beyond journalistic necessity. As a band alone, Arabian Knightz seem worth keeping an ear out for. As a voice of a revolution, well, that’s putting a hell of a lot of pressure on them, but they certainly captured one moment of it on key and in time. MideastTunesMideastTunes is another product of the whippersnapper-powered Middle Eastern idea machine MideastYouth. It covers the music of the region with a completeness that is pretty near unrivalled and certainly is ahead of the game in knowing how to present it. The site has an in-site music player, search function, and even a radio station, Re-Volt Radio. Users can browse by genre and by country of musical origin. Jordanian house? Yeah boys. Lebanese punk? Don’t mind if I do. During the Iranian protests during the last “election” there, the site was a hotbed of ideas changing hands, moving from ear to ear. The instantaneousness of social media means when a person or people have an idea they can bang it out in a hurry. What remains when time sifts out the products of the revolutions going around is anybody’s guess. For now, Arabian Knightz and MideastTunes is a good place to start. last_img read more

Social Media Networking Craze

first_imgFacebook, friends, fans, pages, Twitter, tweets, followers, YouTube, Flickr, Digg, blogging, CMS―do you feel overwhelmed by the social media networking craze? You are not alone! But think about this: Where would Microsoft be had it failed to update its Windows operating system? Even today, Microsoft refuses to stay behind, because it too uses Facebook and Twitter. This is the first of several articles I will be writing on the most popular and successful social media networking technologies that the home-building community should take advantage of for three reasons:They are free. They provide tremendous value in building your brand and enhancing your online presence. They are where your current and future customers are hanging out!How does it all work?Think of a social media networking strategy as the construction of a high-performance home. If you’re a green builder, you know that building a high-efficiency home goes beyond putting certain products together, even if they are Energy Star or labeled “green.” Green home building requires an integrated approach. It entails a different way of thinking. A beautiful green-built home begins with a great design, one that takes into consideration many aspects, including site selection, home orientation, eco-friendly materials and green building strategies. It’s all about strategy and avoiding mistakesJust like building a green home, social media networking requires a plan―a strategy with a purpose―in order to maximize your profits and productivity as a business owner.Social media networking and bookmarking go beyond blogging and having online discussions with your friends and co-workers about what you had for lunch or how tired you’re feeling on a Monday morning after a crazy weekend.Your social media networking strategy deserves an integrated approach. It requires a strategy. You want to manage your online presence because this is where your customers and business associates are and where they will be reading about you. And when they do, you don’t want to have any regrets about what you’ve shared with the world.Use social media networking to extend your business relationships with your customers and colleagues. Avoid posting messages and photos that you would not share with Granny, your customers or your new boss. Your business image can easily be damaged by making these mistakes.Your strategy should involve posting “online billboards” in various social media networking platforms to attract future customers to your website, thus increasing online traffic with the goal of turning leads into loyal customers. Successful businesses are using social media to stay connected with their current customer base and to attract new clients in a transparent, friendly, informative, and non-threatening manner.Your blog is keyOne of the main things you need in order to sing your tune and get with the social media dance is a blog for your business. Your blog serves as a platform where you regularly share your knowledge and expertise. In addition, your blog serves as a way to engage with your customers. It should have a mechanism for visitors to leave comments and submit questions. In short, your blog begins the discussion.Blogging tipsThree things to keep in mind about blogging:Keep your articles customer-friendly, yet professional.Respond in a timely manner to questions or comments.End your articles with a call to action.Larger organizations have departments dedicated to managing their online presence. Although you may not have the ability to hire someone solely to manage your social media presence, consider cross-training and selecting a couple of key individuals in your organization who are internet-savvy and can help you in this area. How do you get started?First, familiarize yourself with social media lingo. Attend social media classes, spend time learning about these (free!) tools and technologies, and study how other colleagues and businesses in your industry are using them.Second, begin mapping a social media marketing strategy to enhance your online presence. Decide which platforms make sense for you to use for your business, and learn more about them.Third, create a schedule to manage your online brand. You can easily manage your strategy in approximately seven hours each month. This is a doable time commitment to manage your online branding using platforms that cost you nada!Questions or comments? Your feedback is welcome.last_img read more

Tendulkar delights crowd in short span, Finch wins it for MCC

first_imgMCC’s captain Sachin Tendulkar prepares to catch a ball during a cricket match against a Rest of the World team to celebrate 200 years of Lord’s at Lord’s cricket ground in London, July 5, 2014. Photo by Philip Brown (Reuters)Sachin Tendulkar made everyone at Lord’s nostalgic with some delectable strokes but it was young Aaron Finch, who stole the show with a magnificent 181 as MCC comfortably beat Rest of the World by seven wickets in the ‘Bicentenary Celebrations’ match on Saturday..It was a ‘Union of Legends’ as the likes of Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Shane Warne once again put on their cricketing gears. While Tendulkar, who made 41 and Lara, who chipped in with 23, showed their class and touch of genius in their short stay, it was Finch’s century that helped MCC overtake Rest of the World’s commanding 293 for seven with 27 balls to spare.Finch’s 145 ball innings had 23 fours and six sixes as he overshadowed India discard Yuvraj Singh’s attractive 132 for the Rest of the World. The only disappointment in the contest was public being robbed a chance to watch a Tendulkar vs Warne duel as the Aussie legend fractured his right hand trying to evade a Brett Lee beamer. It was vintage Tendulkar as he square drove Peter Siddle and hit him for a straight drive. A cover drive off Paul Collingwood was sheer class. He got a little too cheeky with his stroke-making and it proved to be his undoing as he was bowled by Sri Lanka?s Muttiah Muralitharan. His 41 off 44 balls had seven fours.advertisementFinch then carried on and put on another 67 runs for the second wicket with Brian Lara. The latter didn’t look too comfortable in the middle and departed in the 30th over, after scoring 23 runs off 38 balls, including 3 fours.Earlier Yuvraj made a strokeful 132 to power the Rest of the World XI to 293 for seven in 50 overs.Electing to bat in overcast conditions, the Shane Warne-led side slumped to 68 for 5 in the 12th over when Pakistan off-spinner Saeed Ajmal (4/45) bagged four wickets but soon Yuvraj and Paul Collingwood stitched together a 131-run sixth-wicket partnership to put the innings back on track. The opening combo of Virender Sehwag and Adam Gilchrist had given ROW a brisk 54-run start in 6.5 overs but Brett Lee (2/55) cleaned up the Indian dasher for 22 and then Ajmal took over.Ajmal’s country-mate Umar Gul though sustained an injury and hobbled off after bowling two overs post sharing the new ball with Lee.Gilchrist displayed his trademark pull and cut shots as he scored 22 runs off 24 balls, including 5 fours before being stumped off Ajmal. The champion off-spinner then trapped Bangladesh’s Tamim Iqbal (1) LBW, got England?s Kevin Pietersen (10) stumped and finally bowled his team-mate Shahid Afridi for a two-ball duck. But strangely Tendulkar took Ajmal off the attack after his third over, probably to give the crowd some entertainment in the exhibition tie.Collingwood scored 40 runs off 64 balls, hitting 3 fours, but it was Yuvraj who really put on the fireworks. He brought up his half-century in the 25th over of the innings, off only 53 balls and including 4 fours as well as 2 sixes.Yuvi didn’t let up, perhaps trying to make an impression on the Indian selectors, who will soon be gathering to select an ODI side for the ongoing England tour.He brought up his hundred off 114 balls in the 45th over.In doing so, he put on 84 runs for the seventh wicket with Peter Siddle (34 not out, 32 balls, 4 fours). He added 32 more runs off another 20 balls faced and was finally dismissed off Tendulkar (1/33) in the penultimate over. Warne (3 not out) was the other unbeaten batsman.last_img read more
